1. Sale of breeding stock shall be made to farms registered on the NLIS only.

2. Interested farmers are requested to call in person to the Animal Production Division (APD), Réduit, with the following documents/information for the registration process:

a. National Identification Card (original)

b. Proof of address (residential)

c. A location plan indicating the exact location of their farm

d. The postal code for the location of the farm (can be obtained from the local post office)

3. An on-site verification exercise may be undertaken by officers of the Ministry prior to completing the registration process to ascertain that:

a. Person is a bona fide farmer 

b. Farm premises and infrastructure is adequate for rearing of livestock

4. For poultry farmers:

a. Registered farmers may place their order on 4643733 indicating the quantity they require and week of collection

b. The Poultry Breeding Centre reserves the right to cancel order due to change in production program and any other unforeseen circumstances. Confirmation of quantity of chicks, ducklings ordered will rest solely on Poultry Breeding Centre. 

c. A farmer (broilers only) shall be entitled to another purchase order after 2 months from date of purchase

d. In case a farmer cancels his/her order, the first person in the list for the following week’s order will be contacted. If the latter accepts to take his/her order beforehand, then he/she will have a priority on choosing his/her date for the next purchase depending on availability of free slot on that specific date

e. In case production exceeds demand on a given sales day, the excess chicks/ducklings will be sold to farmers who wish to buy more than what they had ordered on a first come first served basis. 

f. Farmers are advised to check for the quality and quantity of chicks received at the time of sale and to report any anomaly to the Sale Office immediately. 

g. Farmers should make complaint regarding chick quality or excessive mortality in the first week to APD either online, in person or by telephone within five working days of the day on which he took possession of his chicks.

5. For Cattle and Sheep farmers:

a. Animals will be weighed prior to delivery

b. Farmers are strongly advised to inspect the animal allocated prior to taking delivery. No claims or returns shall be entertained after delivery. In the event that farmer refuses the animal allocated, no replacement shall be made.  

c. Farmer should make his/her own transport arrangements for the collection of animal/s. Latter may also wish to bring some rope to facilitate handling of the animal. 

d. Applicant must be present with the National Identity Card and letter from APD when collecting the animal/s.

e. In the event that farmers do not collect the animal on the date of sale, the offer shall lapse and the animal shall be allocated to another person.

f. The Ministry reserves the right to visit farm regularly to follow up on the growth of the animal.

g. APD does not bind itself to deliver or replace the animals in case of accident, injury, diseases etc.

h. The animals provided by the Animal Production Division are high-quality breeding animals and should be used to upgrade the farmer’s stock. The farmer is required to report to the APD should the animal(s) die or is culled. 

i. The Animal Production Division shall undertake microchipping of all animals present in the registered farms. Registered farmers are required to provide the necessary assistance in this activity.

6. Any person visiting APD farms are requested to respect biosecurity and sanitary protocols in place. The officer-in-charge may deny access to persons having high temperature and/or not wearing masks.

7. Applications from farmers not complying with conditions listed above may be rejected or put in abeyance until compliance is noted.
